Technologist Training Program
General Description
The Interventional Radiology Training Program allows registered radiologic technologists to acquire additional education, skills and clinical knowledge in the IR specialty. The program is designed to prepare motivated students to complete the requirements for advanced certification in Vascular Interventional (VI) Radiology and pass the board examination.
Prerequisites
· Graduate of Accredited
· Radiology Program
· Radiography (ARRT) Certification
· Will accept new grads upon
graduation of an accredited
radiology program
· Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher in
college coursework
Overview
Inova Fairfax Hospital will be the primary site for the didactic and clinical rotations. Clinical Rotations will include four departments: Interventional Radiology, Neuro Interventional Radiology, Peripheral Vascular & OR. Students will have the opportunity to scrub, circulate and monitor all procedures involved in. The training will include:
· Peripheral Vascular
· Neurological
· Venous Access
· Genitourinary
· Gastrointestinal
· Non-Vascular
· Thoracic/Abdominal/Pelvic
· Miscellaneous
Lectures & hands on workshops will include:
· IR Basics
· Patient Care
· Pharmacology
· Interventional Equipment
· Imaging Procedures
· Imaging Production
· Board Review
Hours/Clinical Requirements:
This program is a total of 9 months and a full-time position. Each student must complete a minimum of 5 on-call weekends and 20 weekday on-call shifts to complete the program.

Once all materials have been received by the Clinical Coordinator, the program committee will review and determine the candidate’s qualifications for the program. Qualified candidates will be contacted for a panel interview to include, but not limited to: Interventional Radiologists, Radiology Nurses, IR Technologists, Coordinators, and the Director of Invasive Cardiovascular Labs

Clinical Requirements
Each student must complete a minimum of 5 on-call weekends and 20 weekday on-call shifts to complete the program. Regular hours will be 730am-6pm, 4 days per week.
Each student will be evaluated at the 90 day mark to ensure that monthly objectives & competencies are being met. If objectives and competencies are not being met, the student will be placed on a performance improvement plan per Inova Policy.
