Medical Plans

Inova’s health plans are designed for the varying healthcare needs of individuals and families. Employees budgeted to work 20+ hours per week can choose between:

  • Innovation Health Preferred Provider Organization PPO1 Plan
  • Innovation Health HSA High Deductible Plan

Dental Benefits

Inova provides two dental plan options for all employees budgeted to work 20+ hours per week. In most cases, dental benefits take effect the first day of the month following the date of hire, with two exceptions:

  • Dental work in progress requires a 10-month waiting period
  • Orthodontia and periodontal services require a six-month waiting period

Vision Benefits

If you enroll in any Inova medical plan, you receive basic vision plan coverage. You can also choose to purchase additional vision coverage by enrolling in a Vision Buy-Up or a Vision Buy-Up Plus plan.

Life and Disability Insurance

Inova's life and disability insurance plans offer additional security and stability in times of uncertainty. With several options available, staff can select plans for themselves and their spouses and children.

Program Highlights

  • Basic Life Insurance – Coverage for employees budgeted to work 30+ hours/week is 1x annual salary, up to $500,000 maximum. Coverage for employees budgeted to work 20-29 hours/week is ½ base pay, up to $50,000 maximum.
  • Supplemental Life Insurance – Active, full-time employees (36+ hours/week) can purchase coverage of up to 8x annual salary up to $1,250,000 maximum. Employees working 20 to 29 hours/week can purchase coverage of up to 8x annual salary up to $300,000 maximum.
  • Dependent Life Insurance – Employees budgeted to work 20+ hours/week can purchase coverage for their spouse and children.
  • Short-Term Disability (STD) Program – Employees budgeted for 20+ hours/week are auto-enrolled and receive coverage of 66.6 percent of base pay starting on the eighth day of disability for up to 180 days.
  • Long-Term Disability Program – After one year of service, employees budgeted to work 30+ hours/week are eligible for long-term disability insurance at 60 percent of pay, at no additional cost.

Retirement Benefits

Inova is proud to invest in the livelihood of our employees, now and into the future. With three comprehensive retirement benefits plans available, employees can choose the savings plan that’s the best fit for them:

  • 401(k) Savings Plan – Employees are eligible from date of hire and anytime thereafter and can contribute up to 50 percent of eligible earnings on a pre-tax basis, up to $18,000, and up to $24,000 for employees aged 50 or older. Inova matches part of the employee contribution.
  • 403(b) Plan – Employees are eligible from date of hire and anytime thereafter and can contribute up to 80 percent of eligible earnings on a pre-tax basis up to the maximum limits described for the 401(k) plan. This plan does not provide any employer matching contribution.

Paid Time Off and Bereavement Leave

Inova knows that our success really depends on the happiness and fulfillment of our people. We designed our Paid Time Off (PTO) and Bereavement Leave policies to cater to the diverse needs of our valued workforce:

  • Paid Time Off (PTO) – Inova employees receive a set amount of paid days off each year that they can use as they wish. Employees budgeted to work 20+ hours/week begin accruing PTO on the first day of work.
  • Bereavement Leave – In the event of the death of an immediate family member, full and part time employees budgeted to work 20+ hours/week are eligible to apply for paid bereavement leave to make arrangements and attend the funeral.

Flexible Spending Account (FSA)

All employees budgeted to work 20+ hours per week can participate in the FSA program. This can reduce your out-of-pocket costs by allowing you to set aside pre-tax earnings to cover approved healthcare and dependent care costs:

  • Dependent care – up to $5,000 annually; if married filing separately, up to $2,500 annually
  • Healthcare – up to $2,550 annually

Work/Life Balance

Helping all of our employees achieve work/life balance is a major goal at Inova. We’ve created a variety of programs to suit the comprehensive needs of our professionals:

  • Inova HealthNET - The following private and confidential care management programs are available through Inova HealthSource:
    • Inova BabyNET – a pregnancy and lactation-care management program
    • Inova WeightNET – a weight management program
    • Inova BackNET – a healthy back program
    • Inova TobaccoNET – a tobacco-cessation program

These programs are free for Inova employees and their spouses.

  • Inova HealthSource – Inova HealthSource offers health and wellness classes in convenient Northern Virginia locations and on the Web. Inova employees receive a 75 percent discount on fitness, parenting, CPR and other classes.
  • Employee Assistance Plan (EAP) – Inova's EAP provides free, confidential counseling services for employees and their families, as well as convenience services to help you find providers for everyday needs, such as house cleaning, lawn care and pet care.
  • Inova Savings Center – The Savings Center, available to Inova employees and household members, is your place to go for exclusive savings opportunities from thousands of your favorite merchants.

Voluntary Benefits

Many voluntary benefits are available to Inova employees budgeted to work 20+ hours per week and can help you save money on everything from auto insurance to pet care. Employees can also access professional services from upstanding associations networked across the country.

  • Long-term Care Insurance – Employees may purchase long-term care insurance for themselves and/or their spouse, parents, parents-in-law, grandparents, grandparents-in-law, adult children, siblings, and spouses of adult children and siblings.
  • Auto/Home Insurance – My Inova Group Auto and Home Insurance Program allows Inova employees to apply for discounted insurance and choose the coverage that’s best for them.
  • Pet Care Discount – Receive discounts and savings on pet medical care, products, maintenance supplies and services. The program covers any type of pet with absolutely no exclusions.
  • Legal Services Plan – Obtain easy, low-cost access to a wide variety of personal legal services by enrolling in this program, which has a national network of more than 9,500 attorneys.
  • Pre-tax Commuter Benefits – Pay for your eligible commuting costs through automatic, pre-tax payroll deductions.
  • Aflac Insurance – These indemnity insurance programs pay cash directly to employees to make up for lost income after an injury or illness.
  • Purchasing Power – This program allows employees to buy brand-name computers, electronics, home appliances and furniture and pay for them via payroll deduction.
  • ID Watchdog – This program allows employees to safeguard their identity from identity theft.

Other Benefits

To round out the employee experience, Inova created several supplementary benefits programs that focus on individual and family education opportunities, adoption assistance, gift shop discounts and even flu shots.

  • Employee Scholarship Program – Inova provides generous scholarships, up to $7,500 annually, for specific clinical programs.
  • Family Scholarship Program – Awards are available for your children who plan to pursue, or are pursuing, a post-secondary education in college or vocational programs.
  • Education Assistance – Enroll in programs that will enhance your current job performance or prepare you for a specific or identifiable position at Inova. The maximum assistance for approved educational expenses is $3,000 per year.
  • Adoption Assistance – Employees budgeted 20+ hours per week are eligible for Inova's adoption assistance plan, which reimburses eligible employees up to $7,500 for qualified expenses related to the legal adoption of a child.
  • Cafeteria and Gift Shop Discounts – Receive discounts for meals and other items at Inova hospital cafeterias and gift shops when you present your Inova ID badge.
  • Inova Learning Network – Inova Learning Network offers ongoing classes for Inova employees to help you remain proficient in your chosen clinical field and acquire new skills for advancement.
  • Free Flu Shots – Free influenza vaccinations are offered during flu season.
